Our students and their families tell us over and over again that these awards remain critical to their ability to pay college tuition and expenses.”Īccording to scholarship fund officials, the scholarship fund has helped provide $3 million in need-based awards to 4,000 graduates of Lower Merion and Harriton high schools. “This has been the case for many years, regardless of the state of the economy – but the need has never been greater than now. “In Lower Merion, as in other communities across the country, the reality is that many – too many – of our students need extra help to pay for college, beyond the aid that they receive from their schools and their own financial resources,” Behar said. Saul Behar, board chairman for the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund, said regardless of the economy there is still a need to help students through scholarships. The board that oversees the fund recently marked the half-century achievement with a celebration last week at Evviva Restaurant in Narberth. For the past 50 years, the Lower Merion Scholarship fund has been helping Lower Merion and Harriton students attain their college goals.
